At Humphreys Dance Studio our staff are passionate about Dance and we believe that anyone can dance - let us show you how. Our Social Group Classes are a fun and casual atmosphere in which to learn the basics of all the most popular Ballroom & Latin Dance and get you out and about dancing in Perth. You may think that you have 2 left feet, but our enthusiastic staff will soon have you dancing the Jive, Cha Cha, Salsa, Quickstep, Rumba and many more fun social dances with confidence. We also offer a free introductory class to anyone attending Humphreys for the first time.
Social Beginners Level 1 Ballroom & Latin
This class is aimed at absolute beginners. We run this class as a 3 week course covering 2 or 3 dances over 3 weeks. This makes it easier for new students to join us every 3 weeks without having to wait for the completion of a 12 week term. It takes 12 weeks to cover all the dances and then you can move on to Social Beginners Level 2 or perhaps move into our Medal Classes. Dances covered are:
- Waltz
- Jive
- Quickstep
- Rumba
- Salsa
- Cha Cha
- Slow Rhythm
- Tango
- Samba
Social Beginners Level 2 Ballroom & Latin
If you have danced elsewhere or have attended our Level 1 Beginners then this class is for you. Once again, the classes are run as a 3 week course and it takes 12 weeks to complete all the dances. Once you have completed Level 2, please consider moving into our Medal Classes if you wish to improve you technique and/or move on to our Social Beginners Level 3 classes to improve your repertoire of steps and figures. Dances covered in Level 2 are:
- Waltz
- Jive
- Quickstep
- Rumba
- Cha Cha
- Slow Foxtrot
- Tango
- Samba
Social Beginners Level 3 Ballroom & Latin
If you have danced elsewhere or have completed our Social Beginners Level 1 and 2 classes then this class is for you. Also run as a 3 week course and also taking 12 weeks to complete, these classes cover the following dances:
- Waltz
- Jive
- Quickstep
- Rumba
- Cha Cha
- Slow Foxtrot
- Tango
- Samba
Once you have completed Level 3 you may wish to consider our Medal Classes and/or move into our Social Intermediate/Advanced Class.
Social Intermediate & Advanced
If you have danced elsewhere, please contact us for the approximate level required to join this class. If you have completed our Social Beginners classes then this class is for you. This is a more advanced class where the figures learned depend more on the abilities of the students. We vary our figures and routines regularly so there is always something new and fresh to learn for our more experienced dancers. Attending our medal classes is always a benefit to any student who wishes to improve their dancing so should also be considered in conjunction with this fun group class. Dances covered are:
- Waltz
- Jive
- Quickstep
- Rumba
- Cha Cha
- Foxtrot
- Samba
- Tango
Many of our regular students continue to attend these classes since the routines and choreography are so varied but many students will also attend medal courses and other classes at the same time. Why not also try our Advanced Social Latin Class?
Sunday Night Social Dance Classes at Humphreys
Looking for a great place to learn to dance in Perth on Sundays? Our Sunday Social Dance Classes are a great introduction to dancing for the beginner. Our 1.5 hour dance class includes not only the most popular Social Ballroom & Latin Dances but also Modern & Latin Line Dancing, Sequence Dances, Salsa and lots more. For the more experienced social dancer or for those who have completed Level 1, our Level 2 & Level 3 classes are your next step in spicing up your Salsa, adding more jump to your Jive and more "rrrrrr" to your Rumba ! Beginners (Level 1) at 5.30pm. Level 2 and 3 at 7.00pm.
SALSA
Looking for a great place to learn Salsa in Perth? Friday Night is Salsa Night at Humphreys Dance Studio. At Humphreys we teach Cuban style salsa which is popular throughout Perth’s salsa clubs and venues. This class is a full hour dedicated to this fun and sexy dance. Our Salsa Beginners Level 1 class is suitable for absolute beginners and no dance experience is necessary. Many students chose to attend our salsa classes together with their social Ballroom & Latin classes and medal classes. Students from all levels join our salsa classes and we tailor the classes to suit your abilities. Please contact us for the next best date to join our salsa classes. No partner needed. No Dance experience needed.

Where do I go from here?
If you have already attended some Social Beginners Dance Classes and are wondering what else is available or how your dancing can now progress we have many options open to you.
- Our Medal/Technique classes are available to anyone who has completed Social Level 1 and above. These classes focus more on technique and are highly recommended to improve your confidence, partner comfort and enjoyment. The Medal Exam is not compulsory at the end of the course but is a great idea to receive some feedback and give you a goal to aim for with your dancing.
- Private Lessons are also available to all students at any level and are a good idea to improve your technique and progress faster through the levels or take your medals.
- Salsa is a great social and fun dance to learn incorporating a more relaxed body action danced to infectious cuban rhythms. Anyone from total beginners to advanced is welcome to join.
- Argentine Tango is also a very popular social dance in Perth and at Humphreys we now include a full one hour class dedicated to this classic social dance style. Please send an email for the latest Argentine Tango information.
- New Vogue is a fun and popular dance style and we hold a dedicated New Vogue Class every Friday evening at 7.30pm.
- Advanced Social Latin Classes are a great idea if you want to add to your repertoire of Social Latin Steps. We teach an advanced social routine to each Latin Dance over a 5 week course.
Social Dance Evenings
At Humphreys Dance Studio we understand that those students learning to dance purely for the social aspect also need some time to practice their dancing in Perth! That is why we also conduct social dance evenings three times a month. These evenings are always great fun. All are welcome to attend these relaxed social nights and the group ranges from Social Beginners through to intermediate and advanced dancers who use these nights to simply catch up with friends and socialise. Some people don't attend instruction classes, they just do their own thing but find coming along and dancing at our social evenings is a great way to keep fit and have fun. These evenings are very relaxed and are about having a good time and getting up on the dance floor no matter what level you are at as a dancer. Come and join the fun. Our Dances are held on the 1st Friday of every month and the 2nd & 4th Saturday of every month
